Hello

My name is Ásta I’m a 20-something-year-old Graphic Designer from Iceland and I love food.
 

My love for it began early on but my mom still reminds me to this day that the first thing I often asked her in the morning was "What's for dinner tonight?". When I was 15 years old I watched the documentary Food Inc. and after that I decided to never eat meat or fish again. I ordered some books from Amazon on the meat industry and tried to convince everyone around me to give up meat but the results weren't great as I didn’t really have a clue myself what to eat instead.
 

My mom helped me tremendously with this new lifestyle of mine and in the beginning I would always help her cook a separate meal for me. As time passed the house meals became more and more vegetarian for everyone though.
 

After graduating from college I moved abroad to study at University which is when my passion for cooking really began. I experimented with new recipes every week and got fresh fruit and veggies from a local organic farm delivered to my door. In the beginning of 2016 I decided to go vegan after watching the documentary Cowspiracy and working on a project marketed towards vegans.
 

I hadn't consumed dairy milk since the age of 10 due to being lactose intolerant but had been eating other dairy products and eggs every now and then. I gradually began cutting out all animal based products and to be honest the transition was a lot easier than I had imagined. The less I ate of dairy the less I craved it. After a few weeks I felt a huge difference in my skin, it was a lot clearer and my stomach was finally at ease.
 

The plant-based lifestyle suits me very well both physically and mentally as I always had a hard time eating animals when I was younger.
 

I've received many questions about both vegetarianism and veganism. I try to focus on the delicious food itself hoping that it will spread the lifestyle, I want people to see that they aren’t missing out on anything by removing animal derived foods. It’s not all salads and nut roasts. I love cooking for friends and family and they way food brings people together. Cooking vegan doesn’t have to be complicated and it can save you money.
